Our team

Michael acts as a business mentor for commercial motor vehicle clients. He has expertise in the technical products available through NZI/Lumley including Torque Data, an online fleet management system. He is involved in developing new IT and technological products for the commercial motor vehicle sector to improve efficiencies and reduce risk for his clients.

Michael has over 10 years' experience at Lumley and NZI. He advanced from managing day-to-day claims to specialising in technical heavy-motor vehicle claims before joining the FRM team.

Craig is the Fleet Risk Manager for the Central Region and is based in Palmerston North. He works as an advisor to help transport operators make decisions on how to reduce their risk.

Before taking up his role with NZI/Lumley, Craig managed transport and logistics for Foodstuffs, Mainland Products, and was Regional Manager for Road Transport and Logistics ITO. Most recently, he worked in the civil infrastructure space as regional manager for Connexis, the infrastructure ITO for the Central Region.

Hamish is the Southern Region Fleet Risk Manager based in Christchurch and works with our transport clients to help them reduce their risk.

He has extensive industry knowledge with over 32 years of experience in road crash and workplace accident investigations, health and safety & road safety, including training and consulting across these fields. In addition to the many qualifications Hamish holds across crash investigation, traffic engineering and road safety auditing, he also has qualifications in Work Health and Safety from Australia relevant to the New Zealand HSW Act, and a Postgrad Dip in Road Safety.

Hamish has significant experience across a wide range of industries, including regulatory agencies and transport, and comes to NZI from Air New Zealand where he was a People Safety Consultant.

NZI Fleet Risk Manager

Mike is a key member of NZI’s Fleet Risk Management team that works with business fleets to reduce accident risk and improve performance through data and analytics. As a qualified mechanic with over 30 years’ experience working in the motor and insurance industry, Mike brings a wealth of technical knowledge and expertise to the team.

Andrew has 20 years' experience in the automotive repair industry. His career started with an automotive apprenticeship and he then moved into parts, then sales. After this he moved back into service roles, spending five years as a Service Manager agricultural machinery and construction equipment area as a Service Manager. Andrew joined NZI in 2018.

Matt came to NZI in 2018 with 8 years’ experience in the heavy transport area. He started his automotive career in Tauranga with CAL Isuzu in 2010 as a parts specialist and moved to Auckland in 2012. He enjoyed the change of location and sector to Commercial Diesel in Warkworth, especially the more varied role spanning motor homes to earthmoving equipment. 

Peter joined the team in 2017 bringing with him significant experience in the automotive repair industry, ranging from light automotive, alternative fuel conversions, heavy automotive, road transport, engineering, quarrying and fuel distribution.

Peter’s career began with a light motor apprenticeship. He has held a range of roles in the transport sector from local body service repairs and large diesel LPG, CNG and Methanol conversions to internal fleet management, lease company asset management, as well as 17 years in management for one of the largest branches of New Zealand’s only solely owned service and repair networks.

Lawrie had 12 years in the panel beating industry before joining NZI as a Repair Manager.

While working in a rural region, he gained experience in assessing farm implements and heavy machinery. In 2012 Lawrie moved to a private company, taking up the roll of Motor Manager and returning to all aspects of assessing including heavy motor, machinery breakdown, and ship surveying.

Ken joined the Commercial Motor Repair team at NZI with 37 years of experience in heavy motor and civil construction industries.

His career began as a truck and plant mechanic covering everything from small compactors to large heavy earthmovers. He spent many years as a heavy-vehicle accident inspector for the Ministry of Transport.

He has worked as a fleet manager for large civil construction fleets as well as a large South Island fleet of refrigerated trucks and trailers.

A qualified collision repair technician, Curtis has worked in the collision repair industry for more than 20 years. He joined the Lumley Light Motor Vehicle team in 2010 before taking a role with one of Australia’s largest insurance companies. Curtis returned to New Zealand in 2013 taking on a role as a Motor Vehicle Loss Adjuster with Crawford & Company New Zealand which included light motor vehicle, farm machinery, agricultural equipment and heavy motor claims before joining NZI as Repair Manager in 2016.

Craig joined NZI in 2017 and has over 20 years experience in the panel beating industry. In 2002, Craig entered the insurance industry and for the last 15 years has managed light motor, heavy motor, engineering and machinery claims.

Craig is trade certified in panel beating, I-CAR Silver Certified and is an ANZIIF (Assoc).
