Jack Point's Clubhouse Claim Story

August 2019

The Clubhouse, which was a recent silver winner in the Commercial Projects Awards, has been rebuilt since a fire gutted it back in 2016.

If you’ve been to Queenstown you may have eaten at Jack’s Point Clubhouse and admired the brand-new, purpose-built restaurant and events space.

The Clubhouse, which was a recent silver winner (historical and restoration category) in the Commercial Projects Awards, has been rebuilt since a fire gutted it back in 2016.

The same week the fire happened, broker Crombie Lockwood together with NZI accepted the claim and reinstatement work began.

During the reinstatement settlement period, Crombie Lockwood and NZI worked with the owners to increase the restaurant’s footprint – a commercial change that would have occurred naturally as part of their ongoing business strategy.

Because of the increased footprint, the reinstatement took a little longer – completed in February 2018 – but with very happy owners who appreciated the extra time and flexibility offered by their insurer. The repairs were completed at a cost of just under $3m.

To round things off nicely, the business interruption claim was settled last month at just over $2m.

This claim example shows just how important it is to have adequate sum-insured and indemnity periods for material damage and business interruption policies.

It’s a great outcome for a Queenstown icon, and NZI is proud to have been able to support the customer and the local community.
