Safe Driving Rewards Programme

August 2019

Excess waivers prove a great incentive for safe driving

NZI and EROAD are now inviting registrations for the Safe Driving Rewards programme, helping to encourage safer on-road behaviour and providing valuable information about driving habits.

The programme, which is free to those EROAD customers who are insured with NZI, offers a waiver of excess for eligible clients whose heavy motor drivers demonstrate safe driving behaviour and meet the criteria. It’s part of NZI’s fleet risk management suite and since its launch, NZI has waived a total of $600,000 GWP in excess for customers, with the largest single excess waived at $25,000.

Ian Taylor, Manager Commercial Motor Vehicle Portfolio, said the idea behind the programme was to better support heavy motor clients across their whole fleet.

“This programme is great because it encourages safe driving across all drivers in a fleet. It’s the combined score of all the drivers in the client’s fleet that will trigger entitlement to an excess waiver. For example, a claim where a good driver was driving, who would individually be in the safest 25 percent, won’t be eligible for excess waiver unless the whole driving team is collectively performing in the top quartile of all EROAD customers.”

It’s fantastic to see the transport industry make the most of the technology and insights available to them and use that to improve the safety of their fleet. We’re very pleased to be able to continue to recognise and reward those companies who are driving safely.”

This is a great opportunity for your customers, who don’t need to wait until renewal time to join. If you have any questions about suitability for the programme (e.g. those on a burning cost or profit share premium basis) please contact frm@nzi.co.nz.
